IT'S JEWISH !
It's Jewish.pdf
By Uriah Smith
When we present God's Holy Law
And arguments from Scripture draw
Objectors say, to pick a flaw:
Though at first Jehovah blessed
And sanctified His day of rest
The same belief is still expressed:
Though with Creation this rest began
And thence though all the Scriptures ran
And Jesus said 'twas made for man --
Though not with Jewish rites which passed
But with the moral law 'twas classed
Which must exist while time shall last --
If from the Bible we present
The Sabbath's meaning and intent
This answers every argument:
Though the disciples Luke and Paul
Continued still this rest to call
The Sabbath day, this answers all:
The Gospel Teacher's plain expression
That sin is of the Law transgression
Seems not to make the least impression --
They love the day of man's invention
But if Jehovah's rest we mention
This puts an end of all contention:
Oh ye who thus God's day abuse
Simply because 'twas kept by Jews
The Saviour, too, you must refuse --
The Scriptures, then, we may expect
For the same reason you'll reject
For if you stop to recollect --
Thus the apostles, too, must fall
For Andrew, Peter, James, and Paul,
Thomas, Matthew, John, and all,
So to your hapless state resign
Yourself in wretchedness to pine;
Salvation surely you'll decline --
Sabbath was Only for the Jews?
The answer to that one is simple. God gave the Sabbath to man
around two thousand years before there ever was a Jew. The Jews
did not exist before Abraham, but the Sabbath was given at creation.
It was restated to the Jews in the ten commandments, and many people
confuse the ten commandments with all the laws that WERE given to the
Jews at that time. But God Himself separated the ten commandments
from all other laws. They were the only laws ever spoken by God to
men, and written by His own finger. Every other law was spoken to
Moses or the prophets to give to men, but God did not trust even them
with the ten commandments. And the ten commandments were honored
above every other law because God commanded that they be placed in the
holy box called the "ark" in the
most holy place of His sanctuary. No other law was so honored.
The ten commandments are different in another way. They are all
laws that apply to every nation and every time. Ask yourself, was
there ever a time or place when it was OK to murder? to steal? to commit
adultery? to worship idols? Every law of the ten is like that--a
law for all times and places. Yet God Himself placed the Sabbath
commandment right in the middle of this universal law. Did God not
know what He was doing?
The Sabbath is a memorial of creation. Were the Jews the only
people who were created by God? Or were we all? Every people
on earth should honor their Creator by keeping His holy Sabbath day.
